5dolls is the female sub-group of the South Korean dance-pop group Coed School. They debuted with two single tracks "Lip Stains" (입술자국) and "I Mean You" (너 말이야). On December 27, 2010, it was reported that Co-Ed School would debut a sub-group composed of all its female members as well as a new member, Seo Eun Kyo, a middle school student who originally was a trainee under JYP Entertainment.

On January 20, 2011, after the group's concept photo was released, 5dolls released two promotional videos featuring Jay Park, one called "Lip Stains" and the other one called "It's You", with "It's You" reported as their title track. 5dolls released their first mini album on February 16, 2011 and debuted on M! Countdown on February 17, 2011.

During their live performances, the group received criticism for presumably lip synching their live performances, with fans and critiques criticizing that main vocalist Chanmi was carrying the group by being the only vocally capable member, thus having the most lines distributed to her as well as being the only one singing live. This was later denied by leader Soomi and by several MR removed videos posted on YouTube. Their next single saw more even distribution of lines.

On March 29, 2011, Hyoyoung was cast in MBC’s upcoming drama, Best Love as Ha Roo Mi. However, it was later announced that the whole of 5dolls except Soomi were cast in the drama as a band called "Candies" .

5dolls released their second mini-album Time To Play on May 11, 2011 with their lead single "Like This Or That" (이러쿵 저러쿵); releasing the music video on the same day. "Like This Like That" stands as the highest selling song for a rookie of 2011 with $192,000 USD grossed. It was later revealed that label mate T-ara's Hyomin was the stylist behind their comeback outfits.

In February 17, Soomi announced she was leaving the group to focus on her solo career, and introduced her replacement, Nayeon, on the same day. On April 4, 2012, using stage name 'Hanna', Nayeon was featured in Yangpa's song Love Is All The Same (사랑은 다 그런거래요). Member Chanmi left the group in Summer 2012 while new member Shannon was added a month later.

On October 16, it is confirmed that 5dolls will be releasing a new album on February 2013 with new members Nayeon and Shannon.
